Without You (Mr. Stark)

by Dwight Evan Young

/
1.
“With great power comes great responsibility” These words feel like an elegy And not a call to arms. Can we go back to the way life used to be Before you were a memory And I was on my own? The world has changed for the worse The bad can’t be reversed We need our hero more than ever But you’re nowhere to be found. I don’t feel so good, Mr. Stark, The past is gone, the future’s dark Without you. The world was saved, but at what cost? The war was won, but I feel lost Without you. There’s only sorrow in my once friendly neighborhood. How can I be a force for good When my heart feels so far from home? (There’s no way home) Everything’s different now No one to show me how To put these pieces back together On my own. I don’t feel so good, Mr. Stark, It’s hard to make it through the dark Without you. I know I’ve got to carry on, But somehow I can’t see the dawn Without you. The world needs a new Iron Man But I don’t fit the bill. But I won’t wait to take a stand, I’ve got some shoes to fill. I won’t let you down, Mr. Stark A flame burns brighter in the dark, Without you. And I won’t back down, Mr. Stark I’m strong enough to make my mark, Without you. Your legacy fits like a scar But we’re prepared, and we’ll go far. There’s day beyond the endless night So long as we have strength to fight. I’ll work with what you left behind To build the world you had in mind.
