Time to Live 02:02
Time to Live Dwight Evan Young Another day comes, And the sun peeks through my window With the same story Everyday it seems… But I’ve been trying To get off this boring plateau, ‘Cause I’ve gotten tired Of living in my dreams. Enough of all this lowbrow, It’s time to live my life now. I need to see what the world has to offer me. I think I ought to go now, Please let me spread my wings now. If I could just escape this stagnant misery… Please let me go now, Please let me go now, It’s time to go and live my life!

Fine 03:46
Fine Dwight Evan Young They shut the school down last night. I got a message saying, “Join the fight.” But I think something is failing, An ominous derailing, But Tony and Danielle say it’s all right. They say we’re gonna be fine. One more time… They say we’re gonna be fine. At least this time. I caught the next bus back home. Strangers so close, yet every one alone. And we don’t know how to feel When the truth’s not the ideal And the person on the TV says it’s fine. He says we’re gonna be fine. One more time… He says we’re gonna be fine. At least this time. We hide at home until the fight is here, Peaceful marches met with riot gear. Hospital bed, Rubber bullets in the head, Tear-gassed lungs, trampled, Left for dead. And I’ve been kept well out of sight, I saw no cameras on that night… But Dan and Tony sent a card Said soon you’re gonna be all right. They say I’m gonna be fine. But not this time…

The Waffle House Dwight Evan Young Cruisin’ around, Everybody’s in town, And I’m down to chill After I fill myself with hashbrowns. It’s a quarter after four When I step in the door. It’s open late, and I can’t wait, I’ve got a hungerin’ for The Waffle House (I’m going to the Waffle House) Checkin’ out the menu, All the options, and then you Realize, it’s no surprise, There’s only one thing that can do. Order a plate of steamy hash browns. Got your eyes on the fryer, the stove, and the sounds Got you salivatin’ while you’re waitin’, getting covered. Hey yo, Sherri, don’t forget, I said I want ‘em smothered. Get ‘em chunked, peppered, capped, no wait, I want ‘em diced. Any way you wanna order, it’s always quite nice. So if it’s country, topped, or maybe plain I’ll take my triple-HB’s “all the way” to the Waffle House. The Waffle House (I’m going to the Waffle House)

Chasing Time 04:59
Chasing Time Dwight Evan Young [I see you] Out in the rain. Out through the window. Invite you to stay, Got a fire in the furnace, gotta keep me warm, keep me sane. [I see you] Follow my name. Count down the hours. Sharpen your claws. While I’m drowning in anticipation, it’s your favorite champagne. [I see you] Bite at the bit. Turn death into flowers. And I’ve got demands, But the mice can’t tell the cats how to run their game. Wanting for more, I knock at his door, And he obliges my impromptu discussion. Grains of sand sift through digital hands, While the mechanical man tells me what I can borrow. As we begin he lies through a grin, So my fate’s bound to the whims of his millennia. Cancel my plans Before they get off the ground, Got a stop-watch in hand, Shuffle my schedule around. Well I know what I need, But I’m still left wasting time. It’s tempting to spend your time Dreaming away But while the Devil’s in the details You’re just turning grey, And when the Devil was chasing me, I was chasing time. Time flows like the rain, Falling from fortune to trials. And like the lightning strikes with the rain, Time is not lacking reprisals. And though the flowers are birthed by the rain, Please don’t be in denial; A bed of roses is not without pain When a thorn is in your side. Even if you could manage To slow time down to a snail’s pace It would still run laps around you. Like a beast, he gnaws on the bones of man’s carefully laid plans, Picking his teeth with our despair. Like a thief, he steals euphoria, replacing it with Freshly-ripened heartache. Falling sand takes with both hands, Remorseless as the vulture to the carrion. [Tick-Tock, tumult, terror, As the grave draws ever nearer Time is not an object You can own.] Cancel my plans Before they get off the ground, Got a stop-watch in hand, Shuffle my schedule around. Well I know what I need, But I’m still left wasting time. It’s tempting to spend your time Dreaming away But while the Devil’s in the details You’re just turning grey, And when the Devil was chasing me, I was chasing time.

Thinking & Dreaming Dwight Evan Young {Thinking} I’ve been thinking about you all day and night Till you fade away. Reminiscing over the last thing you said to me, Gone like the wind through the trees But I couldn’t be who you wanted me to be. And I never saw what you needed me to see. I am subdued Thinking of you, and a Promise made under the moon. The moon… I’ll find you. I’ve never been great with long goodbyes So I’ll try to be brief I don’t say what I mean, but I mean what I say and I’m so sick of wearing my heart and my soul on my sleeve But I find no relief And I couldn’t be who you wanted me to be. (No more long goodbyes) And I never saw what you needed me to see. (Right before my eyes) I am restrained By the cage of my brain Echo the words; “I love you” “Love you”… I’ll find you. {Dreaming} I’m dreaming of a nice, warm, bright California day every night. I feel it in my bones; I’ll find you there Till then my heart is waiting to ignite! In a room of dark and shattered glass I claw through papers from a tattered past. Scrawled in a letter no one saw, These words are empty but they say it all… California, I can’t stop dreaming of you. California, You’re always too good to be true. The summer’s midnight sounds remain serene, Surrounded by the muted blues and greens. I wonder if I’ll ever miss this town. Tonight’s the night I leave this in-between. The gravel’s crunch is song; sublime and sweet, While in my tread I fight this urge to sleep. In every dream I have of you I’ve drowned, No sound can find me but those words repeat: Jump into the Sparkling water, Isn’t it intoxicating? Take the air in, Let it fill you, Can’t you feel your soul become new? [California, I can’t stop dreaming of you. California, You’re always too good to be true.] On the mountain, In the sunshine, Don’t you feel a new beginning? In the moonlight, Made of stardust, Become one with all you’re giving Everything is What you make it. Every dream can be a future. Let your heart stay For a moment, Won’t you say it’s like coming home?
