Chained to the Past

by Dwight Evan Young

/
1.
In a living tomb of regret, And severed ties, and broken words... As you cling to dead things The world moves past you. Familiar comfort’s Hard to see through. Can’t you leave the past behind? Why are you so afraid of what you’ll find? As it was, so it goes… So you drag them with you, Shackled to you, The old mistakes; Obscured, misconstrued. Can you break your self-made chains? Think of what you’ll become, if you just Take the leap! Turn your back on the cold comfort that you’ve known. Look down, Unafraid of what you’ll face on your own. Hold tightly to the dreams you had when you were young. Don’t tread lightly! Tear the seams, pull the thread till you’re undone. You’ll fight through what you revere. Outlast your fears, till the past Can’t find you. Will the future show you what’s to come? [The old familiar comfort] [Everything you ever said, It’s all you ever said] [Chained to the past] Take the leap, Turn your back on the cold comfort that you’ve known. Look down, Unafraid of what you’ll face on your own. Hold tightly to the dreams you had when you were young. Don’t tread lightly! Tear the seams, pull the thread till you’re undone. You’ll fight through what you revere. Outlast your fears, but the past Will find you. Will your future show how far you’ve come? [The old familiar comfort] [Everything you ever said, It’s all you ever said] [Chained to the past]
